Review: Manbound Leather Blindfold

I’ve  slowed down reviewing in recent months due to reaching a saturation point when it comes to sex toys. (There’s a few I would gladly review if I could get them though. Lelo Siri top on that list! I don’t think I’d turn down anything Lelo.) But vibrator.com offered to send me a product, and my favorite blindfold had gone missing just a short time before, so I asked for the Manbound Leather Blindfold.

Blindfolds are inexpensive and easy to find, but finding well-designed ones can be tricky. They are popular items for couples looking to explore a bit – BDSM interest not necessary, you can merely use them to heighten your other senses by blocking your sight. You can blindfold your partner then glide various textured items across their skin, asking them to guess the item as well tell you as what sensations feel best. Most blindfolds are kidney-shaped, fabric and have elastic that goes around your head. The problem with these blindfolds is that the bridge of the nose lifts it up somewhat, so the wearer can see a bit, particularly if they are laying down. This is not ideal. I’ve also had the elastic come off at the seam.

The Manbound Blindfold is not as inexpensive as those types of blindfolds, but neither will it break the bank, and it works much better. It’s soft leather on the outside and fabric on the inside, with some sort of foam between the layers providing cushioning. The blindfold is shaped in such a way that it fits around your nose, thus eliminating the usual places the wearer can sneak peeks through. The leather straps have velcro on the end, so the blindfold can be secured around the head – and fit different sized heads. It presses down on the nostrils a bit, which can annoy me (I’m prone to a stuffy nose!) but probably wouldn’t be an issue for most people. It’s comfortable and overall I can recommend this.

It’s not my #1 favorite blindfold (Liberator’s microfiber blindfold still holds that spot, but it’s only sold as part of a kit and costs more than the Manbound one.), but it is a strong second. Vibrator.com also has similar blindfolds available, some costing a little less than this one.

  • A gushing review… by The Bedroom Blogger
  • The Fascinator Throe by Liberator is the best thing that has happened to my bedroom since the boyfriend. So, you may ask…what is a Fascinator Throe? To which I would respond, ‘Uh, you mean other than amazing?’ Okay, seriously…I’ll stop gushing (ha…that’s the beauty! I don’t have to!). Oh…I’m too much.

Note: A very new reviewer with an excellent voice. I enjoyed the cliché euphemisms that she tosses around (ironically?) and her feeling about the product nearly jumped off the screen giving the medium-length review a lasting impression. It’s not always that an excitedly positive review will grab me like this one did and I look forward to forthcoming reviews.

Review: Rabbit Fur Whip from Sextoy.com

The latest toy I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing is the Rabbit Fur Whip. Sextoy.com was kind enough to send this to me for review.

Measuring 23″ (including 8″ of leather-wrapped handle) this flogger is of a decent size. But as a flogger, it’s ridiculously gentle. This is much more of a sensual toy than an impact one. The rabbit fur is amazingly soft and sensual. Stroking this over someone’s raw ass after a spanking, caning or paddling would feel interesting to say the least.

However, MasterDoc made an excellent point – this flogger is great for practicing flogging. The motions are the same as with a painful flogger, but you practically can’t hit the subject hard enough with this to ever hurt. You can work on your aim and how hard you swing it without injuring your sub. Wrap around is not an issue with something this gentle. It’s good for practicing something precise like nipple flogging.

If you’re looking for a functional flogger to beat your sub/bottom/slave with, this is not one to get. But for either the sensual feel of rabbit fur or a flogger for practice this works just fine.

Review: Lelo Bob, or, Taking Bob in the Ass

Babeland has sent me yet another wonderful toy. I am thoroughly in love with Lelo toys at this point. I already had the Liv, Ella, Nea, and Gigi – the last two being particular faves I use regularly. When I saw the Bob on offer for review I was glad to be able to try out a toy that MasterDoc could use.

Lelo BobThe Bob is a butt plug designed for prostate stimulation. I’m sure that women could use it as a plug too, but it’s part of Lelo’s “Homme” line. It’s made of velvety silicone – which means it’s boil-able and therefore sterilizable. If you sterilize it between partners it can be used with more than one person. The loop at the end keeps the plug from slipping in all the way (an important feature in a butt toy. Seriously, losing a toy in your rectum requires medical intervention.) The wide plug part is fairly firm (but with a little give, much like when a penis is hard) and the “neck” of it leading to the loop is flexible.

MasterDoc likes the Bob and I’ve had loads of fun joking about him taking Bob in the ass. (It’s so nice to be with a straight man who can joke about things and not get at all homophobic.) He says it would be nice if it were stiffer, and a bit longer, but overall he’s quite happy. We’ve used it a few times and I’ve found it laying around used after I haven’t been around. In other words, it gets use above and beyond what’s necessary for a review. The loop is helpful for manipulating it when it’s in your guy’s ass. I would pull down on the loop a little so the head of the plug would press up more into the prostate.

So as usual, Lelo has made me a happy sex toy consumer. I’m dying to try their Siri next as it’s a more intense massager than the Nea, and the Nea rocks. More power can only be better.

Thank you to Babeland for sending this toy for review. This toy was received for free for review purposes and I was expected to give my honest assessment.

Review: Intimate Basics Juno from Sextoy.com

Branded under Dr. Laura Berman’s name, the Intimate Basics Juno Kegel exerciser is a Lucite barbell containing metal balls of various sizes and weights. It’s easy to clean and small enough to fit in my travel toiletries bag. (It’s about 7.25″ long and 1.25″ at the widest part.) Sextoy.com was kind enough to send this to me for review.

Sex educators and gynecologists all over tout Kegel exercises as helpful in many ways – from tightening the vaginal canal as you get older or have children, to possibly preventing uterine prolapse, to helping prevent incontinence. Men can do Kegels as well – it’s all about working your pelvic floor muscles. (More info from Mayoclinic.com) There’s a variety of barbells available to use when doing Kegels. These barbells are not mandatory, but perhaps having a barbell that you lift and hold in your vagina while contracting your muscles will help you in some way – either by making you more aware of how well you’re contracting your muscles or perhaps because it’s a novel thing to do.

I was a little confused by the directions as they seem slightly counter intuitive to me – I may have misunderstood them. They are:

As a novelty product, use internally. Insert gradually over time and use according to your comfort level. For beginners use the lighter weight (smallest ball) while standing, by inserting the smaller end and supporting the other end gently with the palm of your hand. You can work your way to a heavier weight, first by inserting up to the second ball and then turning Juno around and inserting the largest end first while squeezing the vaginal muscles around it. You should support the weight by holding the non-inserted end until you eventually work up to the heaviest weight in with now support.

I started with the smaller end, but damn if it isn’t difficult to hold the barbell up by squeezing that little narrow bit up top! I found squeezing and holding the wider end to be much easier – are the directions backwards? When you insert the narrow end the heaviest ball is hanging at the end of the exerciser. It is amusing to be able to lift the weight up into your vagina by contracting your muscles – picture any other weight-lifting workout. (I envision Jane Fonda workout tapes all of a sudden. Ha ha. Watch Jane lift the barbell into her vag. “Feel the burn ladies!”)

Personally, I prefer just doing my Kegels while going about my daily life. I’m far more likely to get them done if I clench my vaginal muscles when I think of it (because hey, no one can tell what you’re doing). But if you’re interested in some assistance or some way to intensify your Kegel exercises, this barbell is as good as any. It’s easy to clean (soap and water or antibacterial toy cleaner) and totally smooth and seamless (so there’s nothing to irritate your delicate vag).  Oh and one more thing about Kegels – they are reputed to improve sexual response and control. Rowr. I think getting your Kegels done regularly is a win/win proposition.

Review: Sex: How to do Everything

I received an email a while back asking if I wanted to review [Sex: How to Do Everything] with Em and Lo (Emma Taylor and Lorelei Sharkey). I’ve been familiar with their names since reading their sex column in New York magazine years back. I figured sure, why not review it?

There are ten, roughly 45-minute-long episodes that were filmed for British tv (although their “man on the street” interviews take place in London and New York). It took me ages to sit down and watch them all, but I had some time this weekend to plow through the last 5 episodes. I started the series wondering if it really covered “how to do everything” and you know, it pretty much does. I have only a couple of complaints – first, it’s very heterocentric. While some of the average people they interview are gay or bi, the rest of the show doesn’t acknowledge same sex relationships and experiences. However, lots of the information is general enough that queer couples can learn many things from the series as well if they can overlook all the male/female couplings.

The second thing that bothered me is that in the episode on sex toys they mention phthalates, and that they’re bad for you, but not in what types of materials they’re found. Their “roving reporters” Dougie and Georgie (a M/F couple)  go on to review a variety of toys including jelly ones with no mention of their phthalate content.

But those two caveats aside, I think this is a fabulous series. It’s fairly explicit (in the spirit of being educational rather than titillating) and very educational. It’s clearly intended for adults only, but I think this sort of sex-positive series should be featured in high school sex ed classes. Seriously, if more teens saw this then more people would go on to have healthy, safe, and pleasurable sex lives. The tone is always positive, they put in valuable safety warnings – from safer sex to safe BDSM play – and cover a huge territory. They cover furries! They cover BDSM! They cover auto-fellatio! They feature an interracial couple as their main “demo models.” And Dougie and Georgie are attractive yet average – and Georgie’s enthusiasm for sex is wonderful to see. Dougie is a lucky man.

There’s fun features like “dog toy or sex toy” where people are asked to identify a variety of toys, which can get pretty funny. The tone is informative but not boring at all. It approaches sex with a healthy, positive attitude.

The episodes are:

1 – Oral (including a sculptor who casts vulvas as art, Midori giving a very seductive blow job lesson,

a clinical psychologist talking positively about vulvas)

2 – Manual (including hand jobs, masturbation, great anatomy info section on manual stimulation on women, Carol Queen’s masturbate-a-thon)

3 – Orgasm (including g-spot and female ejaculation)

4- Toys

5 – Intercourse

6- Kink (interview with a Domme, Violet Wands, furries)

7 – Anal (including prostate massage. MasterDoc is glad I watched this section! They warn about desensitizing gels, safer sex precautions (like dental dam for rimming) and to use lots and lots of lube)

8 – Fantasy (dress up, role play, striptease, covers UK law on sex in public, porn, abduction fantasy acted out, dogging (acts done in public for others)

9 – Seduction (tantra, striptease/burlesque)

10 – Best of – a compilation of highlights from the series

Unfortunately, the first dvd  in my set was a little messed up so a few scenes were unwatchable. But I cannot recommend this series enough – particularly for people who are inexperienced sexually. But even for jaded old sex bloggers like me there were many useful things to learn from the shows.
