Disturbing

This case recently came to my attention: Bondage Webmaster Fights Abuse Conviction. Let me summarize – there was a consensual bdsm relationship between two people, they became estranged and the woman decided to press charges against the man for the acts she had given consent to. This is scary stuff. A man is in prison for a consensual relationship. It’s so disturbing to know that someone could decide for me that I’m being abused, when in fact everything I do with MasterDoc is done with full consent. It so goes against my sense of fair play for this woman to turn around and cry rape for something she had consented to. (Not to mention how this harms women who have actually been raped. I’ve been there – I don’t think it’s worth reporting rape or assault to the police and thanks to this woman the things that I do willingly could be construed as more harmful than the acts that actually did me harm that wouldn’t be likely to get prosecuted. What a fucked up justice system we have.) One of his subs blogs about the case and she’s made the point that no one who was interviewed (she was among many of his subs who were interviewed by the FBI) corroborated the accusing woman’s story. They all agreed that what they had seen of their relationship was entirely consensual and not under duress. And this man got convicted. Scary stuff. I’m becoming more and more irritated by the government acting paternalistically where it has no business to. (Yup this libertarian socialist might be turning more libertarian these days.)
